Rev Sitsabo Dlamini attains PhD

13 December 2014

On 12 December 2014, Rev Sitsabo Dlamini, CEO at Sitsabo Project Managers was awarded the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Construction Management and Engineering by the University of Reading in the UK. The graduation ceremony was held at the Great Hall, London Road Campus in Reading. The PhD award is a culmination of four years of research work undertaken by Rev Dlamini between 2010 and 2014.

Upon receiving the award, Rev Dlamini reckoned that it was a long walk to work on the PhD programme. He indicated that he accumulated many debts to many people en route. He said he dedicated the achievement to the late President Nelson Mandela who survived 27 years of incarceration designed by the apartheid regime to break his spirit of determination to achieve a democratic South Africa.

Rev Dlamini asserted that, “President Nelson Mandela dedicated himself to the liberation struggle of the African people. He fought against white domination, and fought against black domination. He cherished the ideal of a democratic and free society in which all persons would live together in harmony and with equal opportunities. From his youth, this was an ideal which he hoped to live for and to achieve. He declared in the trial in 1964 before his incarceration that if needs be, it was an ideal for which he was prepared to die. When he came out of prison in 1990, he preached reconciliation. He charged that all the youth of South Africa must go back to school. I consider that nowhere has the significance of education been brought into sharp focus than in President Mandela’s life, to which I owe a huge debt of gratitude.”
